ISLAMABAD: Secretary Water and Power, Nargis Sethi alongwith her team under the direction of Minister for Water and Power, Khawaja Muhammad Asif and State Minister Abid Sher Ali are putting their best efforts to provide relief to people in the scorching heat, by ensuring better power load management and service delivery.
In the recent days with the rise in demand due to severe heat wave across the country and the mercury rising upto 50 degrees centigrade in some parts of the country, the Secretary Water and Power took a number of surprise visits to different parts of the country, said a press release issued here Monday.
These visits were paid to exactly ascertain the quantum of distribution companies’ efficiency and their service delivery. In her visits she inspected numerous sub-divisions, complaint centers, grid stations, transmission and distribution system, the national power control center, power distribution companies (DISCOs) head offices, and similar other electricity installations.
Nargis Sethi also met local people wherever she went and took their views about the service delivery and the quantum of load-shedding in their areas.
The Secretary also urged the people to pay their electricity bills and conserve energy so that more and more people could benefit from the existing power generation.
During the whole week the Secretary Water and Power and all DISCOs chiefs remained in contact via video link and she ordered them to remain at their stations and field offices for at least three months and avoid unnecessary movements so that electricity load and service delivery were better managed.
She also directed them to prepare their own load management plans for the forthcoming Ramzan as there must not be any loadshedding during Sehar and Iftar hours. Nargis clearly told them that she along with her team at federal level would remain on video link during Sehar and Iftar, so that public could get relief on spot, if there was any discrepancy.
A number of other decisions were also made by the Secretary Water and Power for betterment of the system.
The Federal Complaint Centre has been made more powerful and it has been tasked with redressal of public complaints, if these are not paid heed at DISCO level.
On the orders of Nargis Sethi, all DISCOS had notified their task forces, which had been entrusted with the responsibilities of visiting all their sub-divisions and taking immediate and appropriate actions on public complaints and theft etc.
Nargis Sethi also issued directions that all operational staff of the DISCOS will remain on duty on Saturday and Sunday at all levels during the hot season, so that decisions could be made on immediate basis at different levels.
The tireless efforts of the secretary and her team were bringing results and the people would see that load-shedding hours were better managed.
Efforts were on to specify the load-shedding hours so that peoples daily routine was adjusted and they faced little difficulty.
