NA unanimously urges to avoid retrenchment of government employees

ISLAMABAD: National Assembly on Tuesday unanimously adopted a resolution urging the Government to avoid retrenchment of employees from government departments and corporations.

The resolution was moved by former Minister Syed Naveed Qamar of Pakistan Peoples Party. He said Government should categorically announce that the government employees would not be retrenched from any department.

State Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Cabinet Secretariat Sheikh Aftab did not oppose the resolution. Consequently the House unanimously adopted the resolution.
Speaking on the occasion, Sheikh Aftab said it was the vision of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif to exterminate unemployment from the country.

A plethora of new mega projects are being planned to provide maximum employment opportunities to people of the country. The Government has no intentions to retrench government employees.

Chief of Pakhtoonkhaw Milli Awami Party Mehmood Khan Achakzai said an amendment should be passed to strictly avoid overstaffing in government departments.

Pervaiz Malik of PML-N said the retrenchment of contract employees should be avoided. It is practice in Pakistan Railways that the son of deceased employee is given employment in Railways for only two years. Normally the employees are sacked after two years of service. The employees must not be sacked after two years.
