Interior Minister, UK High Commissioner discuss regional security situation

ISLAMABAD: High Commissioner of United Kingdom to Pakistan Philip Barton called on Federal Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan here on Friday and discussed the overall security situation in the region.

Expressing views on bilateral relations between Pakistan and the UK, the Minister said that both the countries enjoy special relations as a result of which mutual cooperation in different areas is getting stronger with the passage of time.

He praised the British Government for hosting immigrants from Pakistan whose role is important in economic development of Pakistan.

The Minister said that close Pakistan-UK relations can play very important role in the developing geo-political scenario of the region.

Peace in Afghanistan is a key to peace in the entire region and Pakistan will continue to work closely with new Afghan government for establishing lasting peace in the region, he added.

Expressing his views on Imran Farooq murder case, the Minister said that Pakistan will fulfill all international obligations as required under the law.

The High Commissioner emphasized that contrary to what is being propagated in certain sections of Pakistan, the government of Great Britain has absolutely no role in the case.

The courts and Metropolitan police in UK are independent in ongoing investigation and its scope.

The High Commissioner praised the commitment of government in establishing peace in the region.

He said the UK is ready to provide all kind of support in implementing Internal Security Policy of Pakistan.

He also highlighted the areas like counter terrorism, counter human and drug trafficking where UK could play even more effective role by enhancing the capacity of civil armed forces by institutional support and specialized training.
