ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif said that the government strongly believed in upholding freedom of the press and was taking all necessary steps to provide safe working environment to journalists to facilitate them in the performance of their professional obligations.
In his message on World Press Freedom Day being observed on May 3, the Prime Minister said, “today we join the journalist community in celebrating the Press Freedom Day, which reminds us that Press is an essential element of democracy”.
He said the efforts of the journalist community were truly commendable for their struggle in upholding the freedom of press in Pakistan.
He said the journalists have sacrificed a lot for upholding the truth and providing citizens with factual information.
“My Government and party strongly believes that freedom of press is an essential component of democracy, transparency, good governance and accountability,” the Prime Minister remarked.
