FAISALABAD: Elimination of power theft and Kunda culture is a top priority of the government, and strict action would be taken against Fesco employees found involved in pilfering.
This was said by State Minister for Water & Power Ch Abid Sher Ali while addressing a high level meeting at the Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (Fesco) Headquarters here on Saturday.
He said the campaign against power pilferage had been launched thoughout the country and it had brought a positive improvement in the Hesco, Fesco and Mepco as billions of rupees had been saved by plugging the loop hole in the system.
He said the Ministry of Water and Power had also launched a campaign against the defaulting departments belonging to the federal and provincial governments and during a five-day campaign record recovery of Rs 3.4 billion had been achieved.
He warned the DISCOs that concerned SDO, XEN and SE will be held responsible for power theft within their jurisdiction.
He said power pilferage was impossible without collaboration of concerned staff and cases against corrupt officials would also be registered under the new ordinance.
He said three different agencies were working to dig out power pilferers and efficient employees would be entitled for commendation certificate and prizes.
Earlier, Chief Executive Officer Fesco Khurshid Alam briefed the state minister and said line loses of Fesco were only 9.6% while its recovery was 99.78% there total feeders were 856 while demand for electricity was around 1,900 megawatt.
The meeting was also attended by Joint Secretary DISCOs Tanvir Bukhari, CCO Rashid Aslam, CE Operation Muhammad Anwar, CE T&G Haroon Rashid, CE Development Akhtar Randhawa, CE P&D Nizamaudin Marwat, DG Human Resources Muhammad Naeemullah, Finance Director Iqbal Ghori and others.
