‘PTI workers attack on court decorum, result of Imran’s irresponsible, provocative speeches’

ISLAMABAD: The act of attacking the court decorum by PTI workers is the result of Imran Khan’s irresponsible and provocative speeches against the judiciary in recent days, said Senator Pervaiz Rashid, Minister for Information Broadcasting and National Heritage.

In a statement on Wednesday: “We condemn the act of violating the court decorum as it was an attempt by PTI to pressurize an independent institution through violent means to get the verdicts in their own favour,”.

“The man who cannot bring his workers in line to respect the court decorum, how can he be expected to work for the welfare and rights of the masses,” Senator Pervaiz Rashid said.

The Minister pleaded to Imran khan to pay due regard to the sanctity of courts, apologize on behalf of his workers and train them for respecting the judiciary.

He said Imran Khan and his party workers should adopt civilized ways of behaving with institutions.

He said “if Imran Khan wants any amendment to electoral rules, he should proceed and knock the door of Parliament. If such an irresponsible demonstration was held on streets as was done today in the court, then Imran Khan would be responsible for any damage to the lives and property of the citizens.”

He said “democracy always listens to the dissenting voices and respects the difference of opinion”.

Senator Pervaiz Rashid said the Government believed in the democratic right of holding a peaceful protest by anyone, however it must be peaceful and within the ambit of law, otherwise law would take its own course.

He said now Pakistan is a functioning democracy where parliament is supreme as it represents the will of the people. “If Imran Khan believes in the norms of parliamentary democracy as he himself is the member of this august house, he should come forward and plead his case on the floor with logic and arguments.”

By holding protests on streets, in presence of democratic institutions, free media and independent judiciary, would be beneficial for none and damage the cause of strengthening democracy and stabilizing democratic institutions in the country, he said.

He said the protest of Imran Khan was merely a manifestation of frustration as his government has failed to deliver in Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa.

Finding fault with the election process now, which made him a member of Parliament and led to the formation of his Government in one province, is beyond understanding, Senator Pervaiz Rashid said.
