Rawalpindi: Blast at vegetable market kills 15 and injures 40

RAWALPINDI: At least 15 people were killed and 40 others sustained injuries in a blast which took place at a vegetable market, located in Pir Wadahi area on Wednesday morning, Aaj News reported.

According to the media sources, the Pir Wadahi area is surrounded with Pakistan Army General Headwaters (GHQ), Govt. offices and sensitive authorities, whereas a slum area of Afghan refugees also lie within the entity.

The police sources revealed the preliminary investigation in which they stated that the explosion occurred due to a time bomb device, which was fixed in a fruit box.

Meanwhile 1122 rescue teams arrived at the incident site and shifted the dead bodies and the injured to PIMS hospital.

On the other hand, police have cordoned off the area for further investigation, whereas traffic jams have been observed on multiple roads leading to this market.
