Railways asked to utilize its own resources for generating revenue

ISLAMABAD: Standing Committee of National Assembly on Railways asked the ministry to utilize its own resources (like Railways lands, other assets, etc.) and private sector may be brought in with the best possible terms to increase its revenue.

Committee, which met on Tuesday here in the chair of Syed Naveed Qamar, discussed budgetary proposals of Ministry of Railways and its attached departments relating to the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) for the next financial year 2014-15 which were presented by the ministry.

Committee urged the ministry to focus on prioritizing their projects and directed to allocate funds in accordance with the actual amount to be provided for PSDP budget 2014-15.

The Chairman expressed his displeasure for aging including again low priority projects in the proposals, said a press release.

He directed that only financially viable projects may be included in the PSDP proposals.

Chairman also directed the ministry to provide a complete and consolidated project report according to the allocated budget within one week, which would be submitted to the Committee.

Ch. Jaffar Iqbal, Sardar Muhammad Irfan Dogar, Rana Zahid Hussain Khan, Rai Mansab Ali Khan, Engr. Hamid-ul-Haq Khalil, Amjad Ali Khan, Syed Asif Hasnain, Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad, Ramesh Lal, Qari Muhammad Yousaf, Ms. Naseema Hafeez, MNAs attended the meeting. The senior officials of the ministry of Railways were also present at the occasion.
