ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Chairman Wednesday announced the results of the auction held for 3g-4g licenses following the day-long bid session.
A Pakistani Tele-communication company, Zong topped the chart by winning 10 Mega Hertz (Mhz) and 18 Mhz spectrums of 3g and 4g licences respectively.
Zong has been called off as the winner and declared eligible to purchase one license of 4g technology, leaving behind other cellular companies whereas the cost of a single license stood at Rs50 billion.
Following the lead, Ufone and Telenor bought licenses of 4 Mhz bandwith whereas Mobilink grabbed 21 Mhz bandwith including license of 10 Mhz band of 3g. Pakistan’s Finance Minister Ishaq Dar lauded efforts Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and Ministry of Information Technology (IT) made for successful organization of the event.
Second of two 4g licences could not be sold worth Rs. 21-billion each at the time while four licences of 3g spectrum has been sold out at Rs111 billion, Dar said. Transparency in the auction process will be made at any cost and approximately Rs. 161-billion income would be expected after activation of 3g and 4g technologies in Pakistan, he added.
The finance minister congratulated the whole nation over successful auction as the introduction of this cutting-edge technology would create thousands of employment in the country.
