Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Sunday that Saturday’s vote reflected Afghan people’s resolute determination to nurture and promote a democratic culture in their country.In a statement, the Prime Minister said that participation of Afghan people in a democratic process would play a significant role towards bringing peace and stability to the region.
The Prime Minister congratulated President Hamid Karzai and the people of Afghanistan on successfully holding and completing the electioneering process.
“Afghanistan is a brotherly country of Pakistan,” he said, adding that not only would Pakistan support Afghanistan in strengthening democracy, it would also work in collaboration with the new Afghan leadership towards bringing peace and tranquility in the region.
The Prime Minster hoped that a peaceful transfer of power would take place in Kabul in a manner that was witnessed in Pakistan after May 2013 general election. He wished Afghan people a bright future. “This election would prove be a historic moment for the Afghan people in their democratic journey,” he observed. He also expressed the hope that these elections would be instrumental in creating unity and harmony among the people of a war-torn Afghanistan.
