Pakistan, Russia have convergence of views on international, regional issues: Bokhari

ISLAMABAD: Chairman Senate Syed Nayyer Hussain Bokhari has said that Pakistan and Russia have convergence of views on most of the international and regional issues.

The Chairman expressed these view during a meeting with Foreign Minister of Russian Federation Sergy Lavrov, said a message received here from Russia.

He said that constructive engagement of the two countries would help in building stability and prosperity of the region.

He termed the visit very successful, expressing his satisfaction that parliamentary interaction between both the countries was increasing and government places high priority to its relations with Russia.

He also emphasized to maintain momentum of interactions at parliamentary, trade, business and other levels.

The two sides agreed that volume of trade was not commensurate with the level of relations and the potential of both the countries.

They also agreed to work together to further promote cooperation in trade, energy and other sectors.

During the meeting, the Russian Foreign Minister Sergy Lavrov said that Russia gives high importance to its relations with Pakistan as it is an important country in the region and the Muslim world.

The Russian side also expressed its support for Pakistan’s inclusion in SCO as full-fledged member.

The delegation was warmly welcomed by the Russian Foreign Minister.

The Chairman Senate along with delegation of Senators is on a four-day visit to Russian Federation.

The invitation of this visit was extended by Chairperson of the Council of Federation of Russian Federation.

Other members of the delegation include Senators Haji Ghulam Ali, Sardar Ali Khan, Ch. Muhammad Jaffar Iqbal and Shahi Syed.

After the meeting, the delegation visited the Krimlin and were briefed about the rich cultural history of Russia. Later, they left for Pakistan Embassy where they offered Jumma prayer.
