Nisar, US special representative discuss regional situation

ISLAMABAD: US Special Representative for Pakistan and Afghanistan James Dobbins met Minister for Interior and Narcotics Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Thursday and discussed overall regional situation.

The meeting was also attended by US Ambassador to Pakistan Richard G. Olson.

Dobbins eulogized the role of Pakistan, both as an ally and as a major player, in the region for the cause of peace and stability.

He assured the Minister that US views the Pakistan government as a reliable partner in the pursuit of peace and was committed to a multi-faceted and long-term relationship with Pakistan.

He said Pakistan’s importance was going to multiply in the aftermath of the withdrawal of US forces from Afghanistan.

Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan emphasized the need for openness and transparency in relationship and demanded a genuine and honest appraisal and appreciation of Pakistan’s role without which the relationship can never be substantive or proactive.

It was agreed to maintain close interaction, both at policy level and in term of areas of close cooperation.
