Karachi’s Mass Transit Project, govt’s priority: Dar

ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar said on Wednesday Mass Transit Project in Karachi was the top priority of government for providing better transport facilities to the residents of the most populous commercial hub of the country.

The Finance Minister was talking to Senator Babar Ghouri, who called on him here.

Dar said the Federal Government was in touch with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for providing necessary funds for the Karachi Circular Railway.

He said the Prime Minister had a vision for economic development of the country and linking of Karachi with Lahore through a motorway was included in the flagship programmes, which the government intended to implement on fast-track basis.

He assured the Senator that required funds for mega projects would be provided by the Federal Government.

The Finance Minister on his own behalf and on behalf of the Prime Minister thanked MQM chief Altaf Hussain and Senator Ghouri for their appreciation of the government’s economic policies.

He expressed the hope that the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) would continue to play its due role in meeting the economic and development challenges being faced by the country.

On the occasion, Ghauri congratulated the Prime Minister and the Finance Minister on behalf of the MQM leader, on successful launch of Euro Bond, strengthening of Pak Rupee and performance of economy.

He conveyed appreciation of Altaf Hussain on economic developments taking place in the country.

He said the turnaround in Pakistan’s economy would lead to progress and development of the people.

Senator Ghouri also discussed mega projects of the Federal Government for uplift of Karachi.

He emphasized that the Mass Transit Project, including Karachi Circular Railway, would facilitate the people of the city and it would also enhance business activity.
