Govt arrested power theft across country: Abid

ISLAMABAD: State Minister for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali Friday said that the government has started operation against power theft across the country.

Talking to a private TV channel, he said several industrialist were arrested and fined for not paying electricity bills.

He said the government would disconnect LESCO power supply, if they did not pay bills within 15 days.

The Minister said Rs. 1.33 billion has been recovered as fine for electricity theft during last one month.

He said the government was taking measures to control loadshedding in the country.

Abid Sher Ali said the Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif has released Rs. 4.50 billion funds to meet the energy shortage of Khyber PakhtoonKhwa province.

He said the notices were also issued to the defaulter government institutions.

He said the government added 2200 mega watt electricity in national grid.
