‘Babri Masjid demolition was a planned act’

ISLAMABAD: The demolition of Babri Masjid on December 6, 1992, was an act of planned sabotage and not an act by frenzied mob of Hindu outfits, a news portal, Cobrapost, has revealed.

The Cobrapost on the basis of a sting operation it had carried over a period of two years claimed that the demolition was elaborately planned by the various wings of the Sangh Parivar and executed with precision by its volunteers, who were trained by retired high-ranking army officers, KMS reported.

It said that top BJP leaders like L K Advani and the then Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Kalyan Singh, as well the former Prime Minister, P V Narasimha Rao, were aware of the planned destruction of Babri Masjid.

At a press conference in New Delhi, the Cobrapost’s editor, Anirudh Behl, screened the recorded interviews in which some leaders of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Shiv Sena, claimed that the operation was carried out with precision by their volunteers after going through intensive training and mock drills.

The sting operation code-named `Operation Janmabhoomi’ was based on the interview of 23 leaders, who were allegedly in the forefront of the demolition.

Among those who were interviewed, were BJP leaders Uma Bharti, Kalyan Singh, Vinay Katiyar, Sakshi Maharaj, Acharya Dharmendra and Mahant Vedanti, who talked about the events in the run up to the demolition. Many of those interviewed are accused in CBI cases pertaining to the demolition.

The “confessions” named BJP leaders, L K Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, Uma Bharti and others for “secretly planning” out the demolition in an elaborate way, the news portal said.
