ISLAMABAD: Governments of Sindh and Punjab once again failed to submit the schedule for holding Local Bodies Election in the Supreme Court, Aaj News reported.
Chief Justice sought explanation from Punjab Government over not challenging the High Court’s verdict and asked what measures had it been taking to schedule the elections.
A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jilani, heard the case regarding the delimitation of the constituencies in the Local Bodies Election.
The court sought Punjab to announce its schedule for the election. Chief Justice asked the Advocate General Punjab Mustafa Ramday that ‘if the high court’s decision was to maintain, how long would it take the Government to hold the elections? ” We needed a suitable time to hold the elections,” he answered.
Chief Justice further asked what measures are being taken by the Government after the High Court’s verdict against the delimitation in Punjab, over which the Advocate General said the verdict has been challenged by ECP. Later, the hearing was adjourned untill March 19.
