PM Nawaz preferred peace on party govt in Balochistan

QUETTA: Despite having majority in the Balochistan Assembly, Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif preferred peace in Balochistan instead nominating chief minister of the province from his own party.

In an interview with APP, here on Monday, Aalaud Din Kakar, the Provincial Information Secretary, Pakistan Muslim League-N Balochistan chapter said that PML-N has 28 members out of total 65 in the Balochistan Assembly and could easily get the office of chief minister.

“Our leader and Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif decided to give top slots of Governor and Chief Minister to Pashtoon and Baloch nationalists, respectively, after they assured him that they would restore complete peace in Balochistan within six months,” he said.

He said that Premier, Muhammad Nawaz Sharif gave office of chief minister to National Party leader, Dr Abdul Malik Baloch and assigned him task to conduct peace talks with Baloch separatists to convince them to join mainstream politics.

“Office of Governor was given to Pashtoonkhawa Milli Awami Party as a gesture that PM Nawaz Sharif gives equal importance to all nationalities and provinces at par with Punjab province,” he said.

Kakar said owing to policies and strategies adopted by PM Nawaz Sharif and Federal Interior Minister, Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan, now people of Balochistan were taking sigh of relief after remarkable reduction in heinous crimes.

He said that people of Balochistan including nationalist parties have admitted that on the special directives of PM Nawaz Sharif, special measures were taken to control corruption in the province.”

It was previous regime in Balochistan, in which every MPA got Rs 1 billion development funds but the province remained deprived of sustainable development,” he said, adding that but now, the federal government has adopted a strict policy of not allowing anyone to misappropriate government funds.

The PML-N leader said that cause of restoration of peace was in the mind of PM Nawaz when he went to sign Marree Agreement with Pashtoon and Baloch nationalists.”

He said that Balochistan received huge funds in billions of rupees on heads of National Finance Commission Award and royalties of gas, oil and mines and minerals those were sufficient to bring record development in the province.

He said that PM Nawaz has given free hand to Chief Minister, Dr Abdul Malik Baloch to take steps for restoration of peace and carry out development by assuring him that the federal government would fully support and cooperate with him in this regard.

“The policies of PM Nawaz have been bearing fruits as peace has started to be gradually restored in Balochistan. Free media can record statements of Balochs who have a special soft corner in their hearts for Premier Nawaz Sharif,” he said.

He said that the parliamentary party of PML-N Balochistan would continue abiding by the decisions of its leader, Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Marree Agreement regarding the Balochistan coalition government.
