ISLAMABAD: A medical team at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital in Riyadh has succeeded in harvesting the organs of a brain dead patient, who had been hospitalized at the King Fahd Specialist Hospital in Dammam, after his family consented to donating his organs.
The organs saved four patients who were suffering from end-stage organ failure, Arab News reported.
Abdulrahman Al-Ghamdi, the administrative coordinator for the Saudi Center for Organ Transplantation, said that the operations room at the center had received a report from King Fahd Hospital stating that there was a patient who had been pronounced brain dead.
“After meeting the family of the patient, a medical team was sent on a medical evacuation plane to King Fahd Hospital in Dammam,” he said. “Surgeons began harvesting organs and conducting transplants on patients who are at the top of the transplant list.
