ISLAMABAD: Parliamentary Leader of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Farooq Sattar on Friday said that Pakistani having dual nationality should be allowed to contest elections of National, provincial Assemblies, senate and local bodies.
Talking to media outside the parliament, he proposed amendment in article 63 (1) (c) of the constitution that bar the dual nationality holders to become members of the parliament.
He said the MQM has also tabled private bill tabled bill in the national assembly to allow dual national to contest the elections. He also sought the cooperation of all political parties for the passage of the bill.
He said the country’s economy has always been considerably supported by the overseas Pakistanis, whose allegiance to Pakistan should not be in doubt.
He said it was the long standing demand of the overseas Pakistan that there should be no impediment in their way to run for election for the parliament. Farooq Sattar said that overseas Pakistani are sending around 15 to 16 billion dollars annually.
