SUKKUR: Minister of State for Water and Power Chaudhry Abid Sher Ali has said that the Government is working on different hydropower projects that would add 2500 MW to the national grid in the current year after which load shedding duration would be cut to eight hours.
Addressing a news conference here on Thursday, he said that after making the power distribution companies in order, a massive operation clean up would be launched against power theft and recovery of outstanding dues from the defaulters all over the country.
He said that across the board action is being taken against power theft and defaulters without any discrimination.
He said that the government would increase load shedding in the areas where bills are not paid and minimize it in high recovery areas.
The minister informed that he was personally monitoring the action against power theft and removal of ‘Kunda’ connections first from Peshawar, Sukkur and Hyderabad.
He said there was 18 to 20 hours loadshedding in the past, which had been reduced to six to eight hours due to the government efforts.
Reply to question, he said that six to eight hours load shedding is being observed all over the country; however, its duration is longer than the scheduled hours in the areas where line losses are high.
After finding poor performance, negligence and connivance with power thieves, the Executive Engineer Larkana Ahmed Khan Shaikh has been placed under suspension with immediate effect while action is also being initiated against others, he added.
