LAHORE: Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Reforms Ahsan Iqbal Tuesday said that grave socio-economic imbalance in South Asian region needed to be addressed for the welfare and betterment of common man.
Addressing the 3rd Annual South Asia Growth Conference at a local hotel, he said that events, such as this conference, were important in terms of finding solutions to economic problems.
The Minister said : “Future is not in conflicts or wars, it lies in collaborations”. He reiterated that it was imperative to resolve socio-economic imbalances for bringing betterment.
Ahsan Iqbal said the government has economic improvement high on its agenda and added things have started changing as energy situation was improving.
He said subsidies have been rationalised and the tax collection was showing positive sign.
He further said that the government was making steady progress in this regard.
The Minister said that objective of of the Vision-2025 was to align the people with the future challenges and opportunities.
He said that under the Vision-2025, seven major things have been focussed upon including water, energy, food security and economic revival.
The focus will be on mobilizing the indigenous resources, development of human and social capital, infrastructure development, value addition and agriculture sector, he said.
It will also include institutional reforms and improvement in security with the aim to ensure sustainable development, he added.
The Minister expressed the optimism that through harnessing “our strengths” and by following the roadmap, the stability could be achieved in due course of time.
He stressed that it was time to convert knowledge into action as this would give results.
In this context, he said that ‘scenario-based planning’ was need of the hour rather than fixed planning.
