3 days anti polio campaign to start in Haripur, Bannu

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Department has decided to launch a special three-day anti polio campaign in Haripur and Bannu districts on Wednesday where all arrangements have been finalized.

According to EPI Khyber Pakhtunkhwa officials here on Tuesday, a three-day campaign would be launched in Haripur and Bannu on Wednesday while similar campaign would be organised in Malakand district on March 31.

The Government keeping in view success of ‘Sehat ka Insaf’ programme in Peshawar has decided to extend this programme to Swabi, Mardan and Charsadda, the officials said, adding special campaign under this initiative would be held on April 6.

According to EPI officials, a three days special immunization campaign that was started on Monday was successfully underway in Khyber Pakthunkhwa and will continue till Thursday.

To provide vaccination to children, the officials said 16069 teams including 13740 mobile, 1567 fixed and 762 transit have been constituted besides 3213 area in-charges.  In addition to Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV), a Vitamin A capsule would also be given to kids.

He said five polio cases have been reported this year from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa including three from Peshawar and two from Bannu against 11 reported cases last year. The Lady Health Workers and officials of Health Department are visiting house to house by administering the vaccine to children.

The people have been requested to bring their children to nearest hospitals for vaccination in case teams did not arrive their homes. The officials said Deputy Commissioners and DPOs have been asked to monitor the situation in their respective districts and provide foolproof security to the staff.
