ISLAMABAD: Middle order batsman Sohaib Maqsood has termed Misbah-ul-Haq an inspiration and a role model for young players saying that Misbah really does help the younger players a lot.
“The way he handles pressure, applies himself and sets an example is just exceptional,” Maqsood while talking to Pakpassion.net.
Expressing views about the upcoming tournaments including Asia Cup and World T20, he said Pakistan was a strong contender in both the tournaments.
“We’ve been playing some excellent cricket in the limited overs formats in recent times as our performances against South Africa and Sri Lanka was very well,” he added.
Maqsood further said the team had a good last year in twenty over cricket as we were close to being the number one ranked team in this format.
With both tournaments being held in Bangladesh it give Pakistan a real boost as conditions will suit our side, particularly the spinners, he mentioned.
The young middle-order batsman said he was happy that the skippers of both the formats trusted him and played him at number four.
“Misbah-ul-Haq was batting at the number four position in one- day internationals before me and I think it’s a fantastic gesture from him to let me bat in his position and to move himself down the order to number five,” he added.
He said he had made some mistakes some matches throwing away my wicket after a good start but he had now learned from his mistakes.
“International cricket is of a totally different standard and one have to learn very quickly to adjust to the highest level,” Maqsood emphasized.
Talking about his intentions to play Test cricket, the batsman said he could do well in the longer format as he had done well in that format in first-class cricket.
“Once the opportunity will come, I would definitely try to grab it with both hands,” he added.
When asked about his comparison with great Inzimam-ul-Haq, Maqsood said comparisons were very flattering and one should be careful not to label a cricketer as the next Inzimam or the next Wasim or Waqar.
“When I hear people comparing me to Inzimam, I think that it’s just way too early to compare me with a legend like Inzi bhai,” he said, adding, “If I can end my career with half of the runs and performances that Inzimam had for Pakistan, I’ll be a very happy and satisfied man.”
