ISLAMABAD: National Assembly was informed on Friday that neither any operation was going on in troubled tribal areas of the country not any decision has yet been taken in this regard.
“There should be no confusion that any military operation had started in Northern Waziristan or other troubled areas. Any decision about operation would be taken in consultation with political stakeholders,” Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan told the Lower House.
He however, assured to fully take care of Internally Displaced Persons who are migrating to other areas due to precision strikes on militants’ hideouts.
“No decision about operation can be taken in secretly, it cannot be hidden because large number of forces had to move to those areas,”he added.
The minister was responding to points of order raised by the different members regarding movement of IDPs to settled areas who had claimed that these citizens were facing hardships.
He said a committee has been constituted under Ministry of SAFRON to look into IDPs issue and Interior Ministry and FATA Secretariat will assist it in execution of duties. “By the time the number of displaced persons is in hundreds and we are having a look on the situation.”
Meanwhile, he said, the military hierarchy has been asked ensure that strikes are targeted and precise ensuring zero percent collateral damage and the government was assured that strikes will be precise with minimum collateral damage. “Even through, if any segment of population is effected, the government will fully take care of their settlement at camps and provide them basic
Nisar said population trickle had started after Bannu strikes but according to KPK Governor and FATA secretariat the influx was very low. “Therefore, presently need is not felt for setting up IDP camps because this act may stir panic among the local residents.”
Chaudhry Nisar, however assured that sufficient funds are being allocated to cater their needs. “We desire that no massive displacement takes place. But, if any situation arises we are prepared for that and in next few days policy framework for the purpose will be in place.”
He also mentioned that the government is also looking into the possibility whether these IDPs would live at camps because as per their traditions they prefer to stay with their relatives or other buildings.
