ISLAMABAD: The government’s nominated committee has declined to hold a meeting with the Taliban committee in Akora Khattak proposed for Monday.
“Any meeting with Taliban following the martyrdom of 23 abducted personnel of Frontier Corps would prove futile,” Irfan Siddiqui, Coordinator and Special Advisor to the Prime Minister in a statement said issued here Monday.
Irfan Siddiqui said the government’s committee unanimously condemned the incident and added that frequency of such incidents were negatively affecting the process of serious negotiations.
“We regret that the things are not moving in right direction,” he said.
Irfan Siddiqui said the nation was hoping for a positive outcome of negotiations so as to end the bloodshed continuing in the country for several years.
He said the meeting of the government’s committee had been convened on February 18 to devise a strategy in accordance with the current situation.
