ISLAMABAD: Pakistani Consulate team, as part of the present government’s directions to maintain contacts with Pakistani prisoners, visited Makkah Jail on Wednesday.
The team included Consul General, Aftab Ahmad Khokher, Vice Consul, Tehseem Ul Haq Haqqi and officials of the Welfare Wing.
The purpose of the visit was to continue to maintain contact with Pakistani prisoners, seek their well-being, express moral support to them and extend assistance to them.
Each prisoner appreciated the visit as it provided them an opportunity to express their feelings, according to a press release received here from Jeddah.
The visit also injected hope among the prisoners, as they were informed that the Government of Pakistan was seriously concerned about their well-being and all efforts were being made for their early release.
The team also met the jail authorities and requested them to look after the Pakistani prisoners.
The Head of the Prison assured the Consul General that, keeping in view the importance of the relations and strength of Pakistan-Saudi relations, he would do his best to look after the Pakistani prisoners within the rules and regulations.
The Jail authorities also promised to process the cases of prisoners whose terms have expired or about to expire so that they could return to their homes without any further delay.
The Consulate has always endeavored to implement the Government’s policy and instructions with regard to overseas Pakistanis detained in Saudi jails.
The Consulate Team’s last visit was to General Jail, Makkah on February 13, 2014 and the next visit will be to Madinah Jail on March 2, 2014.
