ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani Saturday took notice of a reportedly “Panchayat” decision of gang rape of a 40-year-old woman in revenge for her brother’s alleged affair.
The Chief Justice of Pakistan took notice on a press report published in a section of press.
The Chief Justice directed Inspector General of Police Punjab to submit report about the incident before the Supreme Court and the case would be fixed on February 4 for hearing.
Taking notice of the incident the Chief Justice of Pakistan, passed the following order:-
“Report be called from the Inspector General of Police, Punjab about the news item that a ‘Punchayat’ directed that a forty year old woman should be subjected to gang rape as a revenge of her brother’s illicit liaison with some woman. The report shall specifically comment on the veracity of the news and the action taken by the Police. The report shall be submitted by or before Tuesday (04.02.2014) and fixed the matter in Court on 04.02.2014.”
According to report, The incident took place a week ago when a villager sought the formulation of a “Panchayat” after he accused his own relative, for having an affair with his wife.
As a revenge, the accused was forced to bring his sister to the site where the “Panchayatl was held.
Police and witnesses said the “Panchayat” heard the details of the incident only for few minutes and made the unfortunate decision.
The “Panchayat” leader, identified as Nawaz, sentenced the woman (sister of the accused) to be raped by the men from the aggrieved party.
The woman was taken to a room where a man belonging to the complainant’s side implemented the decision.
