FATULLAH: Sri Lanka defeated defending champion Pakistan by 12 runs in the opening match of the Asia Cup at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium here on Tuesday.
Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat in Fatullah. The team set 297 runs in a 50 overs match.
SriLahiru Thirimanne remained the top scoring batsman, scoring 102 runs which powered Sri Lanka to a challenging 296 for six.
However, Pakistan failed to chase the target and were bowled out for 284 runs in 48.5 overs.
Lasith Malinga took five wickets for 52 runs and awarded Man of the Match for Sri Lanka.
