KARACHI- Pakistan Nutrition and Dietetic Society (PNDS) in its first Continuing Nutrition Education (CNE) meeting for the year 2014 has warned that delays in providing nutrition support to critically ill patients can lead to severe complications.
The event held at The Kidney Centre Post Graduate Training Institute, with the theme “Nutritional Management of Critically Ill patients,” the Consultant Dietitian Saima Rasheed said increased morbidity and mortality could also be registered because of starvation or underfeeding in ICU patients.
On the occasion three topic related Case Studies were also discussed by Rabia Anwer (Consultant Dietitian, PNS Shifa).
Prior to the CNE, 5th Registration Exam Certificate Distribution Ceremony was held during which Samina Adam, Registration Committee Chair and Fayza Khan, President presented the certificates to successful candidates of 5th registration exam who are now certified as PNDS’ Registered Dietitian/ Nutritionist (RD/N).
The RD exam was simultaneously held at Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad in October 2013.
President of the Association cited it to be an achievement on behalf of PNDS to plan and hold exam in Lahore for the first time with the help and support of Bbraun Pakistan.
Twelve (12) of the candidates of a total of 17, from Karachi, had successfully qualified the exam against one out of six in Lahore and four out of 11 from Islamabad.
Certificates were also given to second and third batch Registered Dietitians/Nutritionist who renewed their registration for next two years.
