SPRINGFIELD (Virginia): Pakistani-Americans of all main political leanings gathered in a remarkable show of unity to pay tribute to the leadership of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, emphasizing that with the same commitment and national cohesion the country can face off challenges in the way of progress.
The event, organized by head of Virginia chapter of Pakistan Muslim League (N) Asad Chaudhry was attended by local leaders of MQM, PPP, PTI as well as young Pakistani-American professionals, students and intellectuals living in Washington metro area.
In his speech, Dr Zulfiqar Kazmi, who leads an inter-faith organization The Commongrounds, said it was Quaid-i-Azam’s strong leadership and statesmanship that defied heavy odds and realized the goal of an independent homeland.
“If we follow the Quaid’s golden principles and enforce rule of law and constitutional democracy, we can really pull our nation out of troubles,” Dr Kazmi stressed in his speech, which highlighted various aspects of Quaid-i-Azam’s leadership, particularly his extraordinary ability to unite the masses of different areas and backgrounds.
Asad Chaudhry appreciated the spirit of Virginia-based local leaders of political parties for assembling at one platform.
“This sends out a strong message for unity, Pakistan’s national leadership has shown unity on some important issues, and if we try to confront all challenges with unified efforts, Pakistan can advance both economically and democratically,” Chaudhry said.
The leaders encouraged young Pakistani-Americans to take part in mainstream American political system in order to contribute more meaningfully to strengthening the US-Pakistan relationship.
