Three killed in Rawalpindi suicide attack

Three people including a police sub-inspector were killed and 14 others injured when a suicide bomber blew himself up outside an Imam Bargah in Gracy Lane area near airport. The dead and injured were shifted to Holy Family and District Headquarter hospitals where emergency was declared. Police said that the deceased were identified as Amanat Ali, Sub Inspector (SI), Muhammad Waseem and Ghulam Shabir.

Soon after the blast, police personnel cordoned off the area and started search operation. CPO Rawalpindi Akhtar Umer Hayat said that it was a suicide blast. He said that bomber was riding a motorcycle, who blew himself up when the police personnel present at the site signalled him to stop. Hospital sources said the injured included SHO Rab Nawaz, SI Abbas, Tyab Abbas, Tahir Hussain, Aftab, Saeed Ahmad, Syed Alamdar, Javeed, Ijaz Ahmad, Zeeshan Haider, Fida Hussain, Haider Abbass and Khalid.

Meanwhile, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan took notice of the incident and sought report from the concerned authorities within 48 hours. Majlis Wahdat-ul-Muslimeen (MWM) staged a protest demonstration against the suicide attack and demanded of the government to arrest the culprits as soon as possible.
