ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Tuesday disposed of an election petition of Jehangir Tarin, a leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), terming it against the rules to hear the case at a point of time when the same was pending before an Election Tribunal (ET).
The apex court also remarked that the former Chief Justice had already issued directions to the ET for expeditious disposal of the case.
The case was heard by a three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani and comprising of Justice Amir Hani Muslim and Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan.
During the course of hearing, Chief Justice Jillani maintained that the apex court could not hear the case at a time when it was already pending before the ET.
The CJ added that the apex court could only hear the case once it was decided by the relevant ET. Jehangir Tarin argued before the court that the winning candidate was not appearing before the ET and his lawyer was taking dates after dates.
However, the court rejected his plea and disposed of the case saying that the former Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry had already issued directions to the ET for early disposal of his election appeal.
