The Registrar of Supreme Court on Tuesday turned down the review petition filed by former president General Pervez Musharraf (Retd) against the Supreme Court’s July 31, 2009 verdict on the imposition of emergency in 2007. The Registrar’s office while raising objection said the former President used inappropriate language in the petition and the court could not hear a petition in which inappropriate language had been used.
Earlier, Ibrahim Satti, the counsel for Pervez Musharraf, filed a review petition under Article 188 of the constitution read with Order XXVI Rule 1 of Supreme Court Rules 1980 and prayed to suspend the operation of the verdict. The former president had challenged the verdict handed down by a 14-member bench headed by the then chief justice Iftikhar Mohammed Chaudhry, declaring imposition of emergency in November 3, 2007 by General Musharraf as unconstitutional and illegal.
