Gilani reaffirms immunity under Constitution

MULTAN: Former prime minister and senior PPP leader Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani reaffirmed on Friday that he enjoyed immunity under the Constitution.

He suggested that if Senate and the National Assembly abolish article 248 of the Constitution, he would be ready to surrender to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

Talking to reporters at his residence here on Friday he confirmed receiving of a notice from the NAB and said that Pakistan Peoples Party leaders had been receiving such notices in the past too.

“I am not afraid of this notice as neither jails nor torture cells can haunt me,” he added.

Gilani added that he had undergone punishment for 10 year before without committing any wrongdoing. About up-coming local bodies elections, he announced that the PPP would participate in it whether he was sent behind the bar or not.

“My opponents want to see me behind the bars because local body elections are at hand,”he said.

Regarding the NRO, Gilani said over 4,000 people got benefitted from it but only one individual was punished under it.

Replying a question, he said “fake cases” were made against his sons and added that one of his sons were kidnapped too.
