Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has finalised the schedule for Sindh Local Government elections on Wednesday. According to the notification, the date for holding the local government elections remains unchanged, as it would be held on January 18, as per announcement.
Nomination papers would be received by Returning Officer from December 26 to December 29, while names of candidates will be displayed on December 30. Contesting candidates can raise objection on nomination papers on December 31. Scrutiny of nomination papers will be held from January 1 to 5. Appeals against acceptance and rejection of nomination papers can be filed from January 6 to 7, 2014. Appeals will be disposed off from January 8 to January 11, 2014.
Candidates can withdraw their nomination papers on January 12, 2014. The symbols to contesting candidates will be allotted on January 13, 2014. The polls will be held on January 18, 2104. The ECP has also clamped ban on the transfer and posting of the civil servants without prior approval of the commission till the publication of election results. It further states that the Prime Minister, Governor, Chief Minister, Speaker, Deputy Speaker, Federal and Provincial Ministers, Advisors to the Prime Minister or Chief Minister or any other holder of public office will not visit the area of any local government candidate to announce any development scheme or to canvass or campaign for the candidate or any political party. The ECP further directed that all executive authorities in the Federation and in the provinces shall not use state resources in local government elections to influence the elections in favour of any particular candidate.
