ISLAMABAD: Ministry of Education and Trainings has devised a roadmap for next five years to open 30,000 literacy centres annually whereby approximately 0.75 million students will be admitted each year.
The Ministry, in collaboration with National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) has also established more than 0.15 million literacy centres during the last ten years in which 3.2 million students were imparted literacy skills.
According to the Ministry here on Saturday, National Plan of Action has already been launched in September this year in coordination with Provincial and Area Departments of Educations to achieve Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) targets and accelerate efforts towards achieving Universal Primary Education in shortest possible time.
Following a multi-stakeholder consultative process, the Ministry and Provincial Departments of Education also jointly organized eight workshops this year to develop Plans
of Action. The consultative meetings were attended by Provincial Secretaries of Education, representatives of civil societies, UN agencies, and donors.
Provincial Sector Plans were used as guiding documents for developing Plans of Action.
