ISLAMABAD: A proposal is under consideration to develop a three-marla housing schemes on government land for the homeless to whom plots would be given free of cost.
The government would take this initiative under its already announced comprehensive housing plan to overcome housing shortage for poor and shelter less people.
The other targets of the plan are development of 1000 clusters of 500 houses for low-income families through public private partnerships.
According to Ministry of Housing here on Saturday, the government will be picking up a portion of financing cost (over and above 8 percent) on behalf of the borrower to ensure cost-effective access to credit for housing.
A provision of Rs.3.5 billion is kept in the budget for this purpose. Moreover, housing schemes on the model of Ashiyana Housing Scheme will also be developed.
