KARACHI: The 21st edition of National Shooting Championship will be held at the Internationally equipped Pakistan Naval Shooting Range from December 28 to January 2, 2014, National Rifle Association of Pakistan (NRAP) announced on Tuesday.
Country’s 260 sharp shooters in men, women, juniors and youth category will be taking part, Senior ExecutiveVicePresident NRAP Razi Ahmed Khan told APP. He said Sindh Rifle Association has been allocatted to hold the event.
Razi Ahmed Khan, a certified official of International Sports Shooting Federation (ISSF), said, the youth event will also serve as the trials for the selection of Pakistan team for World Youth Olympics being staged in China in August 2014.
Selected players after the nationals will take part in the Asian Junior Shooting Championship scheduled to be held in Kuwait in March 2014 to earn quota place from the region.
He said triple Olympian Khurram Inam, Ahmed Sultan, Irshad Ahmed, Safeerullah will be star attraction of the championship have performedexceptionally well at national and International level.
He said in the Youth events boy and girls of Under-17 years of age group can take part while boys and girls of over above 20 can feature in junior contest.
Five Pistol events – Free Pistol, Air Pistol, Rapid-fire Pistol, Standard Pistol and Centre will be contestedamong the men while ladies will feature in Air and Sports Pistol events.
In Air Rifle competition, Three Positions, Air Rifle and Prone events will be contested both in men and women categories while Skeet, Trap and Double Trap events will be held in shotgun events.
He said besides three services teams Pakistan Army, Pakistan Navy, PAF, four provinces Punjab, KhyberPakhtukhwa, Balochistan, Higher Education Commission, Federal Territory Islamabad and host Sindh will take part 6-day shooting carnival.
