LAHORE: Hundreds of college girls staged a demonstration outside Lahore’s Islamia College after college administration denied leave to a girl who complained about her deteriorating health, media reported Friday.
The girl later fainted and she was rushed to a nearby hospital. As the girl was taken to the hospital, rumors circulated about her death which prompted instantaneous protest by college girls, who criticized the college administration.
“We want justice…we want justice,” chanted a large number of female students when gathered on the Kopar Road outside Islamia College of Lahore, raising slogans against the academy management.
They told media persons that a female student Mahim’s health destabilized yesterday and she sought permission to go home, but despite her illness she was not allowed to leave and eventually died.
The college Principal Farzana Shaheen denies any such untoward incident, saying that Mahim is still under treatment at a local hospital.
“She is alive…I have talked to her family. Protest by students is unjustified,” she said, adding girl’s sugar level shoot up due to which she collapsed.
Medics at General Hospital confirmed that she is alive and her family members are with her at the hospital.
