SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir minister for tourism, Ghulam Ahmad Mir was honoured with peace award in London for his appointment as ‘peace ambassador’ of South Asia, an official said.
The tourism minister who is representing a delegation of the state accompanied by both the tourism directors of Kashmir and Jammu in 4-day travel event in the world, which commenced from today at Excel Center London evinced a large participation from J&K, he said.
He was conferred the peace award by Wold Travel Market Association.
The exhibition saw the participation of almost 5000 exhibitors from around the world. “The J&K stall decorated with emphasis on heritage and culture, scenic splendour, golf, adventure decorations made the stall very attractive,” he said.
The stall was visited by many members of the world travel and trade fraternity. “J&K trade members who participated in WTM appreciated the overall decor and design of the stall. The attractive stall helped in generating many footfalls which in turn provided excellent networking and marketing opportunities for the State trade members to conduct business,” he added.
Mir expressed satisfaction at the outcome of J&K’s, participation and hoped that the state will succeed in attracting many tourists from the United Kingdom in the coming season. He mentioned that the UK was an important market and tourist arrivals from UK have been witnessing a decline in the recent years due to neglect of proper marketing and promotion. NNI
