The outgoing army Chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani expressed satisfaction that the military successfully tackled manifold challenges under his leadership.
In his speech released by ISPR, General Kayani said that “today’s ceremony is remarkable for me. While saying goodbye to the army after serving 44 years, it is an occasion of great satisfaction for me that I’m leaving the army discharging my duties honourably. It was an honour for me to serve the seventh largest military of the world for six years.
“I’m happy and satisfied that I always sought the divine help in each challenge which I encountered during ups and downs in my lengthy military services and strive for the best, for this I’m thankful to Allah that the jawans and officers co-operated with me.
“When I took the charge as army chief I faced various challenges, for which we made efforts and paid attention and finally succeeded. As an institution, we honestly focused on all matters related to security. Today we are ready for any internal and external challenge.
“During my six-year tenure I preferred the interest of nation and country and Pak Army in all my decisions. I have utter belief that God provides guidance at difficult hours if intention is good in decisions. I am thankful to God who provided me such divine help.
“Pak Army has been safeguarding the borders since independence of Pakistan. We not only faced internal and external challenges with the help of Almighty Allah, but also met the expectations of the nation in testing times. The army played its role for peace in the country. I pay tribute to all the martyrs who laid down their lives for this country and to the army jawans who rendered unprecedented sacrifices. Today the nation pays tributes to the soldiers who served as a bulwark against all challenges at every nook and corner of this country.
“The biggest sacrifice is human sacrifice. Death is meaningless in the face of un-comparable devotion and courage. The history of scarifies of Pak Army starts from independence and sovereignty of Pakistan.
“Each ‘sepoy’ of Pak Army is an asset. No other country has such asset or their alternate. I’m also thankful to the nation for its support which spurred our resolve in cases like war against terror or Giari incident. I also salute the brave civilians including women and children who lost their lives in war against terror along with their families.
“We are talented and a brave nation and I’m confident that nothing can stop us from becoming a stronger and prosper nation. But for this, we must play our role with unity and resolve the prevailing crisis by facing the testing times with dignity. Pakistan is everlasting, the army guarantees to safeguard its frontiers and our future is bright….” the outgoing army chief said.
“The new Chief of Army Staff would lead the army to further progress and I’m confident that in the leadership of General Raheel Sharif the army will gain more progress. I pray may he discharge his duties effectively. Even after the retirement my heart and soul will remain attached with the nation.”
