KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Local Government and Information, Sharjeel Inam Memon, has said that at least 22 illegal water hydrants have been demolished since he had taken the charge as Minister for Local Government.
He said the remaining 40 illegal hydrants would also be demolished within a week.
This he said while talking to the media during raid on an illegal water hydrant in Sultanabad area on Wednesday.
The Minister on an information along with KWSB officers and staff raided on an illegal hydrant and ordered its spot to be demolished.
The hydrants was completely demolished and the tankers and machinery were impounded.
Minister Local Government further said that all the illegal water hydrant, billboards, illegal car parking would also be banned. Marriage halls would also be removed from parks and play grounds.
He said strict action would be taken against the officers/ officials found involved in this regard.
The Minister hoped that there would be no relief to those involved in such acts and they would be dealt with according to law.
He informed that 40 illegal hydrants are working in the city.
Sharjeel added that instructions have been issued to IG Police Sindh, DG Rangers and Additional IG to help the Water Board officials in removing illegal hydrants.
He said that it is our responsibility to provide drinking water to the citizens on priority and in this regard any hinderance would not be accepted.
Responding to a question, he said that no hydrant removed should be allowed to reopen.
