Shah rules out any deal with govt on NAB chief appointment

ISLAMABAD: A meeting between Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the Leader of Opposition in National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah for the appointment of chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Wednesday ended without result again.

In previous meeting of the two leaders the names of Justice (retd) Ajmal Mian and Justice Ijaz Chaudhry were proposed by the opposition and the government for the top accountability post.

Khursheed Shah told media persons after the meeting that no deal with the government on the appointment of chairman NAB was done.

Khursheed Shah said if the opposition had struck any deal with the government, then the appointment of NAB chief would have been made so earlier.

Shah described the meeting with the premier as positive and said they discussed two new names for the slot in the meeting.

He said four names that included two retired judges and two former bureaucrats were discussed. These are Justice (retd) Ejaz Chaudhry, Justice (retd) Mian Ajmal, Chuahdry Rauf and former secretary Shaukat Durrani.

The opposition leader said PM Nawaz Sharif would hold consultation with his team on the four names.

The next meeting will be held today (Thursday) at 11:00 AM, he said, and expressed hope that one name would be finalised in that meeting.
