Rigging unacceptable, CJP should take notice: Imran Khan

LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan on Tuesday said Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry should take notice of the rigging in the elections. He said the PTI will come out on roads to save democracy if it failed to get justice.

Imran Khan said the opinion of the masses has become crystal clear after decisive victory of his party in Faisalabad.

Addressing a press conference, he said that rigging in general elections is unacceptable, adding that such elections were used to be held in the era of dictators.

“Elections like this cannot promote democratic system in the country,” he added.
He warned that if justice was not delivered, angry masses would come to streets for their rights.

The PTI chief made it clear that the nation is seeking justice from the Chief Justice of Pakistan who should play his role in this regard and arrange impartial investigation into the matter.

Imran Khan added that he was emphasizing holing of fair elections only in order to discourage further rigging in next elections.

“The election tribunal judge tendered his resignation because he was being pressurized by hidden elements”, he said.

He asked who would put the election commission on trial.

The PTI chief said like the general elections, rigging is also expected during the local government elections in Punjab. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, he said, Biometric and Electronic voter system would be introduced to ensure transparency.

The said the apprehensions showed by Allama Tahirul Qadri before the elections turned out to be true. He said free and fair elections could not be held under the current system.

Throwing light on current situation of inflation, he said that the country has not seen such horrible inflation in its history within such short period.

Imran Khan contended that the poor people are being crushed by the burden of undue taxes and corruption.

He said that the rich class in the country is free of every kind of taxes while the poor are bound to face burden of undue taxes and other responsibilities. “That is absolutely against the true spirit of the law and constitution,” he said.

He said the PML-N and PPP were set to do “Muk Muka” on the appointment of chairman National Accountability Bureau. He said no one made any kind of consultation with the PTI in this regard.

Imran wondered that who will do accountability when the sister of former president Asif Ali Zardari will become chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee of the National Assembly.
