PM Sharif chairs energy meeting

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif on Monday expressed his dismay at the performance of water and power ministry to check power theft and line losses.

A high-level meeting headed by the prime minster is under way in Islamabad.

Officials of the water and power ministry briefed Prime Minister Sharif about steps taken to reduce line losses and power theft in the country.

According to sources, Prime Minister Sharif said he was not satisfied with the ministry’s performance in this regard.

Participants of the meeting mulled over new power projects to reduce the current gap between electricity demand and its supply.

It was decided that supply of gas to domestic consumers would remain a top priority during the coming winter season.

According to insiders, the government is likely to completely block CNG supply, a proposal, which attracted severe criticism from opposition parties.
