ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on Saturday said that transparency, accountability and rule of Law should be their objectives and be followed in all matters.
The Prime Minister observed that after passing of 18th Amendment, the necessary legislation needed to cope with the new scenario has not been made and this situation created a legal vacuum.
He directed that in order to fill this gap, necessary legislation should be made. The previous government, the Prime Minister noted, has shown criminal negligence in this respect.
The Prime Minister constituted a three-member committee headed by Federal Minister Zahid Hamid to propose measures in this respect while other members of the committee would be Special Assistant to the PM Khawaja Zaheer and Secretary Law Barrister Zafarullah.
The committee would recommend new legislation in order to overcome the legal vacuum created after passing of 18th Amendment.
The Prime Minister passed the directive during a meeting with Secretary Law and Justice Barrister Zafarullah who called on him at the Prime Minister House.
Barrister Zafarullah briefed the Prime Minister on the working of his ministry. The Prime Minister said that courts’ decisions should be respected and directed the secretary Law to complete all the matters related to these decisions.
“We respect judiciary and believe in active and independent judicial system. Our party has remained part of the judicial movement,” he added.
