PM enjoys immunity under constitution: SHC

KARACHI: Sindh High Court bench headed by Justice Hassan Feroz conducted hearing of petition filed by petitioner Mahmood Naqvi against prime minister Nawaz Shrif and while passing his remarks said that first of all the issue of maintainability of petition should be ascertained.

The petitioner was of the view that the prime minister had uttered such words which are tantamount to contempt of court, adding that before this former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani has been put on trial in the same case.

Upon this, Justice said that the petitioner needed not to wander here and there; rather he should express his stance while keeping in view the very spirit of the law and the constitution which gives immunity to the prime minister under article 248.

Finding the petitioner unable to satisfy the court, Justice put off the hearing till October 28.
