Parents urged to give equal rights to girls on international Girl Child Day


D.I.KHAN: Like other parts of the world international Girl Child day was also observed here for highlighting issues being faced by girls in getting education.

Special events were held to mark the day that aims to recognize girls rights and the unique challenges girls face around the world.This year theme of the day is innovating for Girls Education?, as fulfillment of girls right to education is first and foremost an obligation and moral imperative.

“Bargad”(Tree) ,a non-governmental organization for youth development and women welfare,organized special events on the day to shed light on the significance of girl child, their right to education and its impact on the society.

Talking to APP here on Friday, Chief of Bargad organization, Sabiha Shaheen, said that Girl child is usually neglected in our society and is not given her due status.

She said that Islam and basic human right teaches equal rights for male and female but regretted that this basic right was denied to girl child in our society.

Sabiha Shaheen said that in our country certain practices and customs were being observed in our country that do not recognize equal rights of girl child and this unjust practice continues right from the cradle to the grave.

She said that this day was being observed to raise awareness among the masses that girl child was equally the gift of God as was the male child and she is one who raises the new generation and therefore transform the whole society.

The organization therefore urge the parents to treat their male and female children  equally and give both the quality education so that Pakistan has a good and healthy society.
