Fresh drone strike not to affect peace process: Fazlur Rehman

ISLAMABAD: The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) ameer Maulana Fazlur Rehman said on Thursday that the fresh US drone attack in Waziristan will not affect the peace talks with the Taliban.

Talking to media persons outside the Parliament House, Fazlur Rehman said attacks on the security forces and masses were the outcome of the government’s wrong policies. He said the delay in talks with the Taliban is natural as Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan is taking all the political parties into confidence over the matter.

The JUI-F chief said Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif for the first time presented the viewpoint of the nation over the drone attacks to the US. He said one should not expect that the drone attacks will stop with a single meeting of the PM with US officials. He said the global support for Pakistan’s viewpoint regarding the drone strikes has given strength to Pakistan’s efforts to stop these strikes.

To a question, Fazlur Rehman said the all parties conference had empowered the government to hold negotiations with the Taliban, and Chaudhry Nisar is taking all the parties into confidence over the government strategy in this regard.

The Maulana said his party is ready to provide all kinds of assistance to the government for holding talks with the Taliban as the whole nation wants peace.
