ISLAMABAD: The federal government on Friday informed the Supreme Court of Pakistan that it has withdrawn a recent notification on power tariff hike, media reports.
Attorney General Munir A Malik submitted a written reply over the notification on behalf of the government before the three-member bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Choudhry.
The government informed the bench that the notification issued on September 30, 2013 stands withdrawn and that the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) is asked to have a fresh review of the electricity prices.
On Monday, government raised power tariffs by up to Rs5.89/ unit. The decision was widely criticized by the general public and opposition political parties.
